Political disinformation and digital reputation: a personal note

When a fabricated accusation spreads across the internet, the only thing a professional can do is publish, in their own voice, the verifiable version of the facts. — Magín Eduardo Blasi Blanchard.

Anyone touched by a political disinformation campaign knows how it works: an original post on a marginal channel, dozens of automatic reposts across aligned outlets, and then a layer of serious media that echo "what is being said" without verifying the source.

The mechanism

In my case, the point of origin was a story published in 2020 on a YouTube channel with a polemic track record. From there, the chain is traceable: outlets aligned with the Venezuelan regime replicated it; a Caracas-based correspondent then moved it into a U.S. media outlet; and from that moment on it stayed indexed as if it were a fact.

The professional response

The only legitimate response to disinformation is to publish verifiable information, sustained over time, on channels you control. This blog is part of that: first-person content, signed with my name, about what I actually do — hospital management, pharma, mortgage banking — and about what I participated in during 2019–2020 in support of a government recognized by the United States.

What a professional owes to their own record

It is not revenge, and it is not a media lawsuit. It is simply respect for anyone who tomorrow may want to do business with me, hire me or understand me. They deserve to find my work before they find the noise.
