Beckon Scientific: building a pharma from the demand side

After thirteen years running hospitals, the next frontier was the supply chain. That is how Beckon Scientific was designed. — Magín Eduardo Blasi Blanchard.

Beckon Scientific was born in 2013 out of a pattern I saw repeatedly over more than a decade running hospitals: most availability problems with oncology and biologic drugs do not happen inside the hospital — they happen in the chain that gets them to the hospital.

Designed in reverse

Most pharmaceutical distributors grow from the supply side: they secure a portfolio and then look for buyers. Beckon was designed the other way around. We started from the clinical protocol, from real per-service consumption, and from there we built the portfolio, the suppliers and the logistics.

The cold chain as a principle

Oncology and biologic drugs are unforgiving: a two-hour temperature break can destroy an entire batch. Our biggest investment has never been in marketing but in traceability, continuous monitoring and validated logistics — from the manufacturer all the way to the infusion room.

What comes next

Beckon keeps growing in specialty distribution and in agreements with international laboratories. The logic is the same: where clinical error is expensive, operations have to be excellent.
